Dave Menkehorst

‘Playing drums and being a producer, I bring Antwerp’s 90’s alternative rock scene to Holland and vice-versa. I like to take us back to losing ourselves in songs and performance, instead of in microphones and faders.’

Dave Menkehorst is a drummer, producer and sound engineer all together. His musical hearing as his strong point, he’s an all-round educated professional working with some of Holland and Belgium’s finest. Having an IT-background, his specialties lie in the crossover of theoretical technique with creativity and musicality. The diversity of playing almost daily in clubs, festivals and theaters with known artists and less known gemstones, is what he describes as one of the most exciting part of his job.

Having this passion and talent he coherently graduates from the Rockacademie in 2012, now being a professional drummer and audio-engineer. In his thesis ‘How to cash talent’, the Menkehorst-model is born. Due to this research of how to be an entrepreneur and a die hard musician all in one, he graduates with flying colors.

After getting his degree Dave jump starts his career. With the Antwerp band Sir Yes Sir, he stood on big stages all around Holland and Belgium; such as Lowlands, Pukkelpop, Boomtown, Paradiso, Ancienne Belgique, and every other festival you can think of – not to mention the TV and radio shows they attended. In the years that follow he expands his aptitude to the theatrical – where he adds drums, vocals, and guitar to the podium.

In the past year the jack of all trades keeps on burgeoning forth – increasing his network, adding more and more vocals and records to his oeuvre, and germinating as he goes. In this year Dave made cd’s with – amongst others – Roosbeef, Henny Vrienten, Dez Mona, Derrick van Schie, Chemical Butterfly, Snowapple, Niels Geusebroek, Ellen Schoenaerts, Ken Yates, Tijs Delbeke and Bart Moeyaert. With the up and rising newcomer Sunday Sun he discovers new ground, being one of the four shared lead vocals on stage.

If there are any highlights in this young man’s career so far? All of it, will be the answer. Although every high has it’s peak. For Dave, it’s getting a phone call from his idol Ceasar, asking him if he wanted to play drums on his record. A little boy’s dream came true.
